Preventing Addiction:
The Importance of Early Intervention
Teens who abuse substances at an early age are at a higher risk of falling into the cycle of addiction that can follow them into adulthood. It’s important to understand that there is a difference between substance abuse and addiction. Substance abuse is defined as the use of illicit substances or the misuse of medication.
Addiction, on the other hand, is a complex disease of the brain that impacts the reward center, brain structure, and functionality. It impairs several areas of one’s life, including school, relationships, mental health, physical health, and long-term success. Not all teens who abuse drugs and alcohol will develop an addiction. However, it significantly increases the chances.

Targeting The Root of Teenage Substance Abuse
As parents, watching your teen struggle with substance abuse can be extremely distressing. The developing brain is vulnerable to the long-term consequences of abusing drugs or alcohol in adolescence. We understand the complex nature of substance abuse in teens with a focus on treating underlying mental health problems and trauma that drive their addiction.
Our evidence-based therapies and individualized programs help teens modify negative thought patterns, set treatment goals, and develop positive coping skills. We offer several levels of care to help teens throughout the entire treatment journey, as well as aftercare services to ensure their long-term recovery.

Lotus Behavioral Health holds both treatment and academics as equally important. We understand many teens who enter treatment fall behind in school, creating extra challenges when they transition back to their community.
