What We Treat

Preventing Addiction:
The Importance of Early Intervention

Teens who are diagnosed with mental health disorders are at a higher risk of developing a substance abuse problem. Teens experiment with drugs to cope with emotional pain, begin abusing substances, and fall into the cycle of addiction.

Addiction is a complex disease of the brain that impacts the reward center, brain structure, and functionality. It impairs several areas of one’s life, including school, relationships, mental health, physical health, and long-term success. Teens who struggle with unresolved mental health challenges are at a significantly higher risk of developing a substance abuse disorder.

Targeting The Root of Teenage Substance Abuse & Co-occurring Mental Health Problems

At Lotus, we focus on treating the driving forces behind teen substance abuse. Co-occurring disorders are when youth struggle with a diagnosed mental health problem and substance abuse simultaneously. This can make the recovery process more complicated. Our team consists of licensed substance abuse counselors and mental health therapists to address both of these issues for successful treatment outcomes.

Our individualized programs help teens modify negative thought patterns, set treatment goals, and develop positive coping skills. We offer several levels of care to support teens throughout the entire treatment journey, as well as aftercare and transition services to ensure their long-term recovery..

Benefits of Lotus
Co-occurring Disorder Treatment

Mental Health & Substance Abuse Evaluation

We understand that teenage addiction is often driven by underlying mental
health problems and trauma. When your teen first arrives for treatment,
they will be given a comprehensive substance abuse evaluation and mental
health assessment to identify what treatment is most appropriate for their
needs.

Family-Focused Care

Lotus Behavioral Health recognizes the importance of family in the
recovery journey for teens. We encourage parents to stay involved in their
teen's treatment process for an increased success rate. We offer family
therapy to resolve conflict, form better connections, and create a
recovery-supportive environment for the teen to return to.

Evidence-Based Therapies

During treatment, your teen will participate in intensive individual and group therapies such as CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing. Our licensed clinicians will help teens break negative thinking patterns that drive their substance use. Clients set treatment goals and develop positive coping strategies.

Relapse Prevention Planning

Throughout treatment, we will focus on relapse prevention planning by helping teens build a strong support system in their community. This may include involving family or friends in the recovery process, ensuring teens meet academic requirements with educational support, connecting them to a peer recovery network, and aiding the family in attaining aftercare and follow-up services.

Medication Management

During co-occurring treatment, your teen will meet weekly with our board-certified psychiatrist to address underlying mental health challenges through medication management. When they first enter our treatment program, we look at the medication they are already on—adjusting prescriptions and dosages as needed. Medication combined with therapy can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Academic Program

Lotus Behavioral Health holds both treatment and academics as equally important. We understand many teens who enter treatment fall behind in school, creating extra challenges when they transition back to their community. Teens in our program spend time in the classroom each day while continuing to make progress in their recovery.
